On February 22nd, my best friend married her best friend and I got to capture their wedding.
Iona and I met in 2019 while she was visiting her sister. She is from Teresina and teaches English in their country that speaks mostly Portuguese. We bonded over many long car rides to Cru at Penn College, and connected over our common faith in Jesus. The joy of both enjoying regular life and holding each other accountable in a gospel centered way is something you do not find every friendship.
When Iona met Viktor I was not sure how I felt. Haha... The language barrier concerned me, because I would not know if he was a true Christian, so I could only take her word for it. Everything she told me about him made him sound like the perfect God-centered man for her, and I was so excited when she told me they were getting married, and wanted me to come.
In February 2025, I packed my bags and headed to the airport for my 22 hour flight to Teresina, where I was met with Iona's beautiful face that I had not see in 3 years. Two days later I met Viktor and had a very deep conversation with him on Google Translate. I can tell that God is at work in their relationship, and that they will be able to serve and love God together as they join their lives. I have no doubt that they will be met with hard times, as all true godly relationships are. I trust that God will bring them through and they will strengthen and refine both of them until He calls them home.
